Time is Now to Talk to Teens About Drinking

Disclosure: I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Anheuser-Busch’s Family Talk About Drinking Program. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

With high school graduation season well under way, the time is now to talk to teens about drinking. No, it may not be the most fun conversation we have with them right now, but it is a necessary one. And it doesn’t have to be difficult thanks to Anheuser-Busch’s Family Talk About Drinking Program.Family Talk with Teens

Talk to Teens

In our home, Colby and I have always left the lines of communication open. When I was pregnant with our oldest, I decided that any question asked deserved an honest answer. We always used proper terminology and gave them as much information as we could. Or we Googled it. As long as together, we made sure to find an answer.

When it comes to talking to your children, at any age, it can be that easy. As our kids graduate and move on to living life… away from us… we hope they retain the information and advice we gave them. So, sit them down and have that talk. Here are a few tips from Anheuser-Busch’s Family Talk About Drinking Program to get you started:

  1. Listen and respect their opinions. Just like you and I, they want to be heard.
  2. Set clear boundaries. Let them know what you expect and the consequences of breaking that trust.
  3. Encourage accountability. As they head out to celebrate their accomplishments with friends, ask that they simply check in with a call.

Take this window of opportunity as they transition into adulthood to talk to them. Let them know how you feel and teach them the proper way to handle any scenario that may come up.
