My husband is literally a clean freak. I am about to embark on two back-to-back press trips that will have me gone for about 10 days total. I can almost guarantee that I will come home to a completely spotless house.

My kids know that while I am away Daddy will have them cleaning from top to bottom. It works for me but probably not their favorite way to spend their days at home with daddy.

Therefore, we made a run to Walmart to ensure that we had the Heinz Cleaning Vinegar we needed to get started on our cleaning day.

With the traffic our kitchen sees you can simply imagine the mess that can be made. My kids are the worst about not putting away the boxes of cereal after they make themselves a bowl.

Seriously. I will come downstairs in the morning and there will be 3 different boxes of cereal on the counter. Why? Apparently no one can put a box of cereal away like I can. I deserve an award for “Best Cereal Box Putter-Awayer.” Ha!

Actually, the cereal boxes are the least of my worries when it comes to messes. That’s easy. But, the sink and microwave are a whole new ballgame. Fortunately, there are some great non-toxic ways to clean our kitchen and keep it healthy for the kids.

One solution my mother taught me about is vinegar. To be specific, Heinz Cleaning Vinegar is an excellent natural cleaning product available at Walmart. There are so many uses for vinegar the possibilities are endless.

We decided that tackling the kitchen would be the best way to properly showcase a few of those solutions.

Since our sink is typically full of dishes, the dishwasher takes a beating at least once a day, if not more. But since our dishwasher is a bit old, it doesn’t always get our dishes as clean as I would like and can emit an odor of its own.

Therefore, I like this next tip we discovered: vinegar in a bowl on the top rack. Yep! Pour 1 cup of vinegar into a bowl and put it on the top rack in the dishwasher. Run the machine, without any other dishes inside, through a full cycle.

Doing this once a month can help reduce the soap buildup within the dishwasher. (Make sure to check your owner’s manual about using vinegar).

Our garbage disposal sees lots of use. And, well, it has been known to give off a weird, non-pleasant smell sometimes. But, there is an easy solution!

By mixing 1 cup of Heinz White Vinegar with equal parts water and then freezing to make ice cubes you have a natural cleaner. After freezing, simply grind the vinegar ice cubes in the disposal and then flush with more cold water.

This helps eliminate the odors and freshen the air radiating from the sink. And afterwards a quick wipe down with a vinegar soaked cloth can leave a shine on the chrome fixtures and sink basin.

Need to wipe down counter tops? The front of the oven? Refrigerator? We found that by simply soaking a wash cloth in the Heinz Cleaning Vinegar we could easily wipe away debris and stains on the counter.

And with our light-colored laminate counter tops that is a much needed resource for us!

Lunch is normally concocted through the use of the microwave. But, for the kids sometimes, the concept of covering food in their is simply unheard of. Therefore, there is often a mess to clean inside the microwave.

And, once again, vinegar can come to the rescue.

After pouring ¼ cup vinegar and 1 cup of water into a glass bowl, put it in the microwave and zap it for 5 minutes. Once cooled, dip your cleaning cloth into the mixture and wipe down the inside with ease.

Finally, once done with cleaning, the kitchen always needs a fresh, clean smell to accompany the way it looks. Mix ½ cup vinegar and 1 cup of water in a small pot. Let the mixture boil until almost completely gone. This will help keep the kitchen smelling fresh and ready to use.

And there you have it! A nice, sparkly clean kitchen that I can enjoy. I wonder how long it will last?! The best part is that it really required nothing more than some water, Heinz Cleaning Vinegar, and a little bit of elbow grease.
