Any time we hop in the car for a road trip with the girls, safety is always our first concern.

Before long trips, we make sure the tires are ready for travel, there’s gas in the tank and we’ve checked the other fluids under the hood.

Finally, we don’t pull out of the driveway until everyone is properly buckled in. We have precious cargo and it’s important we all arrive safely.

Last month, we packed up the 2017 Lexus RX 450h F Sport and set our sights on New Orleans.

It was an 8-hour trip with both Colby and me, our three regular travel companions, and all of our luggage for 4 days in NOLA.

Of course, with a family our size, we always push the limits when it comes to packing down a vehicle when we travel.

Although we always limit each family member to one bag and one carry-on–yes, we run the family car like an airline–there are still so many extras that come along.

We have a snack bag, a small cooler for drinks, a beach bag (when there’s water play on our itinerary), as well as any other travel necessities one of us may require. (So we’re not as strict as an airline.)

The Lexus RX 450h was able to efficiently handle everything we threw into it. Even the insanely heavy bag of Mardi Gras beads we collected during the (family-friendly) parades we attended while in New Orleans.

The valet at our hotel, while helping us load said bag of beads, even commented on how much stuff we were able to load into the cargo space of the RX 450h after we closed the power liftgate.

In fact, everything fit so well that Colby still had the entire back window to use, distraction-free, while driving us home.

Once back in the luxury crossover, it was about getting us back home, safe and comfortable. And it was; very comfortable actually.

The RX 450h F Sport seats up to five passengers and still has the capacity to hold all of our stuff.

The rear seats offered plenty of space for each of the girls to move around, while Colby and I, in the front leather seats, utilized the navigation system to find the best route back to Dallas and connected my iPhone to the Mark Levinson Premium Surround System to stream our favorite playlists on the drive home. 

While Colby used the cruise control as much as possible for better fuel economy, I played DJ as the girls enjoyed some car karaoke.

Oh, and those safety features I mentioned? The Lexus Safety System includes:

Additionally, the 2017 Lexus RX 450h has a rear seatbelt indicator so you can make sure all of the rear passengers are properly buckled in.

With our youngest, it helps us know when she might need a little help buckling up for safety.

Plus, the RX 450h has roll-sensing front and rear side-curtain airbags, side-impact door beams, and three-point seat belts with pre-tensioners for outboard rear seating positions.
