3 Questions to Ask Your Kids over Breakfast

We’ve all heard how breakfast is the most important meal of the day — for a variety of reasons. In children, for example, it has been known to lead to better behavior, higher test scores, and healthier habits. But more than that, it can also lead to great mindfulness leading into each day.

3 Questions to Ask Your Kids over Breakfast

Think about it. Mornings are often rushed. There is work and/or school to get to. Errands to run. Games to attend. We live busy lives that often keep us on the go. But, what if you took that extra time each morning to sit down and enjoy breakfast with the family. What if you not only prepared your body for the day ahead — but your mind as well. By asking your kids these three questions each morning at breakfast, you can all focus on positive ideas and thoughts in hopes of a better day ahead.

What is your focus today?

I have recently begun to set a daily reminder each day with a new focus. It often revolves around a situation or circumstance I have found myself in that needs to change. Since I believe children lead by example, I want my children to know how to focus on the good as well. Asking them this question helps them to pick one item to focus on and to hold onto that purpose throughout the day. Change is made one step at a time, and focusing your time and energy on what matters most helps make those steps even easier.

What did you learn yesterday?

Again, from my own experience, I have discovered there is something to be learned from every circumstance. Whether it’s an observation made on the street or a direct correlation to a situation I found myself in, there’s a lesson to be learned. Asking my children this question inspires them to look for ways to learn something new, as well as drives them to want to learn more.

How can you make a difference?

As long as I can remember in my parenting life, I have always asked my children to look for the quietest, most shy child in class and to reach out to them. To seek out the one student that sits alone and to try to make friends with them. I believe it’s crucially important to reach out to those that others may not see as a friend… and to make them yours. So, whether it’s making a new friend. picking up trash on the street, or serving another in need, how can you make a difference? It’s the one question I most enjoy asking the kids. After all, change begins with YOU.

3 Questions to Ask Your Kids over Breakfast

As a mother, it’s important we pass down morning traditions to our children that will continue to impact each of them into their own parenting journey. How they choose to “demonstrar cariño” with food such as Honey Nut Cheerios can make an impact for years to come.

Be sure to watch Cereal con Cariño, an exclusive 4-part video series about empowering moms to feel good about serving cereal as a breakfast option.
