I first visited Oregon three years ago on a media trip. I flew into Portland for a night before we left for the coast and explored the beautiful countryside. I instantly fell in love with the scenery and people; even the weather. I knew that I had to come back and bring the family along.
Mt Hood Territory
This past month, Colby and I, along with the three youngest girls, had the opportunity to visit Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory. I can not tell you how excited I was simply in planning this trip! It was a plan long in the making and one of my top bucket list items. I desperately wanted to show Colby and the kids the beauty of Oregon and Mt. Hood Territory allowed us to do just that!
From the End of the Oregon Trail to the world famous Timberline Lodge, there was plenty to see and do in Mt. Hood Territory. In fact, here are (just) our top 5 favorite things to do in Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory:
Philip Foster Farm
Take a step back in time at the home of Philip Foster, one of Oregon’s earliest pioneers. Look, listen and feel the pioneer experience as you walk through the beautiful gardens and smell the flowers on the oldest lilac in Oregon. Visit the 1883 Farm House, 1860 hay barn and grind some corn for the birds. Take a self-guided tour or try your hand at pioneer chores. Take home a souvenir from its country store packed with toys, candy and household goods ranging from the 1800s to the early 1900s.
Over the course of the Willamette Falls stand-up paddle board tour, adventurers board paddle boards and paddle the Willamette River through waters rich with fish (Chinook salmon, shad, smallmouth bass, and even sturgeons). eNRG Kayaking paddlers may witness local wildlife, such as herons and osprey, while taking in the falls and surrounding river scenery. The tour heads upstream, passing by the historic Willamette Falls Locks en route to breathtaking Willamette Falls.
Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl
At Oregon’s most exciting summer attraction, you are sure to find something for everyone, including great activities for the whole family, adrenaline junkies, the naturalists, and even the young ones. Play at the alpine slide, Malibu Raceway, mountain bike park, ziplines, bungee, tree top action zone, horseback riding and more. Their friendly and experienced staff will make sure your visit to the Mt. Hood Adventure Park will make a memorable and fun summer, guiding you through 20+ attractions where you’re in control.
Northwest Ghost Tours
The Downtown Oregon City Walk with the Spirits Tour is a two-hour tour covering over 20 blocks of Historic Downtown Oregon City, around and along Main Street. Tours start and end at the base of the Historic Oregon City Elevator at 7th and Railroad Ave. Guests will pass by some of the most haunted places in Downtown Oregon City and will hear real ghost stories based on documented research.
Molalla Country Farm Loop
The Molalla Country Farm Loop includes 21 farm stops that highlight local foods to savor; beautiful plants, flowers and Christmas trees for your house and garden and friendly farm animals or majestic elk. Enjoy a taste of country and a new adventure at each turn of the road.
Driving from one location to the next, we were able to experience so much of what the region offered: valleys, rivers, farmland, mountains, and forests. Yes, it was damp off-and-on throughout our visit, but it didn’t deter us at all. We simply dressed for the occasion and moved forward. After all, the different climate was a nice break from our Texas summers.
The girls actually loved the trip and I was amazed at how much they learned during our week long visit to Oregon. That, in addition to the landscapes and activities we enjoyed, was truly worth every mile we drove there and back. In fact, we have not stopped telling others about the amazing cabin we stayed in or the things we did since we’ve returned home. It’s hard to not want to tell everyone about the beauty and fun we had in Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory.
