I have been going to the State Fair of Texas for as long as I can remember.

Every year, on our designated school fair day, we would pack the car and head to the Fair. It’s one of my fondest memories from my childhood.

Now, with a family of my own, I enjoy making new memories.

From the auto show to the petting zoo to the midway rides. There is enough to entertain everyone and plenty of family fun at the State Fair of Texas.

In fact, as you’re planning your trip, there are several facts and tips about the Fair that might come in handy.

State Fair of Texas online coupons

Discount Days

Taking the whole family means making a budget. Fortunately, if you’re able to make it to Fair Park on discount days, you can save a little more. I’m told Wednesday is the best discount day!

Each person who brings four canned food items to donate to the North Texas Food Bank receives $4 admission. OR, buy online before you go and save $1.50 per ticket!

Fair Food

It’s Texas, Y’all. The Fair is known for eating fried foods. From Fried Snickers to Fried Mexican Fire Crackers, you can find all sorts of tasty new flavors when you visit.

Come on Thrifty Thursday and you’ll discover special food pricing so you can try even more new and classic state fair food.

Children's Health Barnyard

Farm Friends

Always our first stop, the Children’s Health Barnyard is full of furry farm friends for the kids to feed and engage with.

From goats to miniature horses and Texas Longhorns, there are a variety of animals to visit. Not to mention, kids can partake in interactive learning displays as well.

Cars, Cars, Cars

If you’re a car fanatic, like we are, the Texas Auto Show is one you don’t want to miss.

You can step inside the newest models from all the big auto manufacturers, as well as take a peak at some unique concept cars. Stop by to ask questions, sit inside, or even take one for a test drive.

Texas Star® Ferris wheel

The Midway

The State Fair Midway features more than 70 rides including the iconic 212 ft. Texas Star® Ferris wheel, the Kidway, the 500 ft. Top o’ Texas Tower and the 1914 Dentzel Carousel.

This, in addition to, a variety of fun games for you to play and win! State Fair Food & Ride coupons are used to pay for all Midway rides and can now be purchased online.

Live Music

Finally, one of my favorite parts of the Fair, was the live music.

From the Chevrolet Main Stage to several smaller stages throughout the fairgrounds, fairgoers can be entertained by some of the biggest names in music—and all for free!

Sensory-Friendly Mornings

Plus, new this year, and I LOVE IT: Sensory-Friendly Mornings

On Sensory-Friendly Mornings there will be adjustments made across the fairgrounds to better accommodate those with sensory-related concerns.

Fairgoers will be able to enjoy all the fun of the Midway without the usual lights and sounds from 12 pm to 1 pm.

Also, there are designated “Quiet Zones” where families can go throughout their visit should they need to depressurize. Find out more in the State Fair of Texas Guided Itinerary.

As someone who suffers from Sensory Processing Disorder, plus mom to a couple of sensory-seekers, this is amazing!
