Chicken and Bow Tie Pasta with Bertolli

Encourage Kids to Eat New Foods with Bertolli

Sometimes, cooking for a large family can be an interesting challenge. We have a host of taste buds that don’t all like the same thing. We are always on the hunt for foods that the whole family can agree on. Although, one dish we all seem to enjoy is pasta. By adding Bertolli® Tuscan Inspired sauce, we can really add flavor to a traditional plate of noodles.

Encourage Kids to Eat New Foods

How often do you make a wonderful dinner, only to serve it and have at least one person at the table growl at the dish? Just me? Colby and I try to introduce the kids to new foods as often as possible. As we walked through the aisles of our local Kroger recently, we noticed the Taste of Italy® program. The program encourages shoppers to explore and learn more about Italian culture and their delicious dishes. Therefore, we chose the Bertolli Tomato & Basil Sauce to begin our tour.

The combination of delicious vine-ripened tomatoes, summer-leaf basil and Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil sounded like a perfect way to add more flavor to our basic pasta. In fact, because we often eat fettuccine and spaghetti, we decided to add the Bertolli Tomato & Basil Sauce to a bow tie pasta. We know the kids already like the bow tie pasta and wanted to introduce the new flavor seamlessly into a food they already knew and enjoyed.

Not to mention, with one or two of our children, vegetables can be a battle. The sauce we chose was light and not over-powering in terms of introducing more veggies into dishes for the kids. Keeping the tomatoes and basil a big more incognito meant the picky ones were less resilient to giving the sauce a try. And, I have to admit, it worked. Once we added slices of grilled chicken, a meat they already enjoy, to the dish, the kids had no problem diving into the dish of pasta.

We told them about the Bertolli Tomato & Basil Sauce and even let the girls help in making the Chicken and Bow Tie Pasta dish. When they are able to be involved in the process, it always makes them even more eager to try new foods. Colby and I love being able to teach them not only how to cook but to teach them about the foods we use. As a family, we are learning to better appreciate the food, our family meals, and the conversation that can come from our time in the kitchen.
