Last week I was in Miami surrounded by hundreds of powerhouses in the Latino blogging community at Hispanicize. There were celebrity bloggers from every platform and niche represented. Bloggers, big and small, were there to learn and be inspired. Personally, I did both and am encouraged about the year ahead based on what I was able to takeaway.
Each conference is an opportunity to grow your brand. At Hispanicize, growing is though empowering one another and celebrating the triumphs in our industry. Listening to the incredible work the presenters have achieved was more than inspiring. It demanded that I reach further and work harder to get to where I am headed. And although there were many great tidbits of information shared, let’s focus on the 4 takeaways I found most appealing to my brand:
1 – VIDEO, VIDEO, VIDEO
This one one common thread that I heard in almost every session. Video! Whether you are making short-form video on Instragram or Vine, or going all out on YouTube, you NEED to have a video element. It’s a growing trend and there is no stopping in sight. Learn it.
2 – Be authentic
Know your brand. It is okay to say no to opportunities that come your way but do not fit your brand. Authenticity not only establishes loyalty with your readers, but to your clients as well. Be true to you in all your work.
3 – Get out of your comfort zone
When I am asked how I began blogging, I always come back to this. You absolutely MUST step outside of your comfort zone. You cannot grow staying inside your own little bubble. This industry is about networking, being creative in your niche, and thinking outside the box.
4 – Invest in yourself
When you attend a conference, you are very investing in yourself and your business. Make sure to do more things like that. Buy that new camera or upgrade your computer. Move forward with the investments that help your brand grow.
Honestly, other than the video element, each of these takeaways can be put towards anything you do in life. Professional or not. It is important to know exactly who you are and what you are hoping to achieve. Remember those things and do them… daily. Whatever it takes. You CAN do it if you only set your mind to it.
