Therefore, I can serve canned foods anytime, and with confidence… and with a quickness.

Honestly, some of our favorite, super quick meals come from a can. For instance, a can of Old El Paso Refried Beans, along with a packet of taco seasoning, cheese, and tortillas make for a simple taco night. A can of Manwich and hamburger buns can be cooked and ready to serve in minutes. Have a can of corn, ranch style beans, and some hamburger meat? Then you have all you need for a goulash that was a staple at our dinner table growing up.


In fact, a well-stocked “Cantry” can help you save both time and money. Plus, you can easily make a healthy, home-cooked meal more often. There is no need to make frantic runs to the store to grab missing ingredients, or pick up fast food in a crunch, when you have a cantry full of great choices.

Think about how many fruits and vegetables you throw away each week. They sat in a bowl on the counter or in a drawer in your refrigerator and went uneaten, right? Now they are spoiled and must be discarded. As a matter of fact, 73% of Americans throw away spoiled fruits and vegetables on average two times a week. We only have to dump ours once a week… typically the day before we head to the store for more. I hate throwing out food. That is another plus with cans. They can help make sure your fruits and vegetables do not go to waste.

Since we love to eat fruit, but are not always able to eat it right away, there are a few varieties we buy in cans. The fact that many canned fruits and vegetables still offer the same nutrients as fresh and frozen selections helps me make an informed decision. Thus, since I love pineapple but can never finish one before it spoils, we opt for the canned product. I can use my Dole Crushed Pineapple for many recipes.

Keep Calm

When my parents stopped by one night for dinner, and knowing my dad’s sweet tooth, I had a quick solution.

3 Ingredient Pineapple Angel Food Cake

After looking in the “cantry” I found all I needed to make a delicious 3 Ingredient Pineapple Angel Food Cake. Three ingredients… and the main one was a can of crushed pineapple. Combining these three easy pantry finds and 20 minutes in the oven offered us a delectable dessert in a rush.

Pineapple Angel Food ingredients


  1. 20 oz. Dole Crushed Pineapple (with Pineapple Juice)
  2. Angel Food Cake Miix
  3. Cool Whip


  1. Preheat oven to 350° and grease pan, as needed.
  2. Combine Angel Food Cake Mix and crushed pineapple (and juice) in a bowl (save a small dish of pineapple for garnishing top of cake, if desired). Beat until well blended. (Note: This mixture will rise so make sure you have a good size bowl for mixing). Food Cake Mixture
  3. Pour mixture into cake pan or loaf pan as instructed on cake mix package.
  4. Let cook for 20-30 minutes until golden brown (or inserted toothpick comes out clean).
  5. Cool and top with Cool Whip, as well as extra pineapple if desired.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

  1. I don’t keep a lot of canned goods on hand – there might be a can of black beans and maybe some tuna? It’s rare if I buy canned goods, unless there is a storm coming or I’m making chili.

  4. We have been working a lot on food storage for our family, and emergency preparedness. And having canned food is a big part of this. It also helps me to cook fresh foods from home more often as well. We are stocked on Fruit, canned vegetables and I”m working on getting more stewed tomatoes in cans!

  6. We have found that is actually very budget-friendly and makes dinner in a pinch quite easy.

  7. It is so good. I was unsure exactly how it would turn out quite honestly… but yum! Oh yes, but beware, I have never made an Angel Food Cake and did not realize how much it rises while you are beating it. Make sure to use a large bowl! 😉
