How To Put On and Take Off Contact Lenses

My daughter, Jaden, and I are new to wearing contact lenses. We both decided we wanted to have the option to not wear our glasses, especially when being adventurous on our travels, so we had eye exams for contacts.

Being able to wear them on our trip to Oregon where we were kayaking, hiking, zip lining, and more was an incredible freedom from glasses. Therefore, we decided we wanted to keep wearing them and recently partnered with 1-800 CONTACTS to order more!

Put On and Take Off Contact Lenses

The one thing I was leery of before trying contacts was having to touch my eyeball. I wasn’t quite sure about the process and what it would entail, so I was apprehensive about the change.

After wearing them for a few days, I discovered that it’s really not that bad and actually makes my life a bit simpler.

Contacts don’t require me to keep cleaning lenses and allow me to partake in things without worrying about losing my glasses. Once I learned the proper way to put on and take off my contact lenses, I felt better about the whole thing.

Properly putting contacts in:

  1. Before you take your contacts out of the case, wash and dry your hands with a mild hypoallergenic soap that doesn’t contain lotions, perfumes or cosmetics as they can leave behind an oily film on your fingers. Dry completely with a clean, lint-free towel. Do not use your jeans! They leave behind plenty of denim lint that can transfer to your lens. I may have learned this the hard way!
  2. Always inspect the contact lens before putting it in your eye. If you see that it is damaged, replace it with a new one.
  3. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger. Pull apart your eyelids, look up at the ceiling, and gently place the lens on the lower part of your eye. Blink several times to center the lens and you’re ready to go.

Properly taking contact lenses out:

  1. Wash and dry your hands as you did to put the lenses in.
  2. Look up at the ceiling and pull down your lower eye lid. Touch the lower edge of the lens and slide it down to the lower white of your eye.
  3. Gently squeeze the lens between your thumb and index finger and remove it. Repeat for the other eye.

Jaden and I both prefer daily wear contacts. Each morning, we open a new pair of contacts and then dispose of both once we remove them.

It’s important to always wear and replace your contact lenses per the schedule prescribed by your eye care professional.

Additionally, make sure to follow the specific cleaning and storage guidelines for your brand of contact lenses. Most importantly, order your contacts from a reputable company you can trust.

1-800 CONTACTS mobile app

Not to mention, their mobile app makes ordering with your prescription even easier! Once you have an account, simply take a picture of your prescription (if available), or upload it, and choose the contacts you need.

Jaden and I ordered our contacts on Wednesday and had them at our house by the following Monday! The process took less than 5 minutes from selecting our brand, uploading the prescription, and purchasing.

Plus, we immediately received an email confirming our order, as well as an email to inform me they would need to check with my optometrist since I didn’t have my prescription.

Even with that small delay, my contacts still arrived the same day as Jaden’s! Needless to say, 1-800 CONTACTS made it seamless and easy to get what we ordered.
