My girls are pretty tech savvy. I mean, both of their parents are bloggers. With me as their mom, they’ve pretty much been on the computer since they were in the womb. Therefore, they tend to thrive on interactive learning and educational games for kids. Since we decided to begin our homeschool journey again, I have been looking for new programs and curriculum for them. Online learning for kids is perfect because they can still access it when we are traveling.

Online Learning for Kids

The girls have been trying to get me to take a look at ABCmouse.com® Early Learning Academy for a while now. I have heard great things about it and wanted to give it a try, I was waiting until later in the summer. But, because they were persistent, I decided to give it one good look and signed up after looking through the educational games and learning activities for kids. Not to mention, they offer a free 30-day trial, so there is really nothing to lose. Diane H. Wong, an essay writer, and mother of two kids, thinks that a 30-day trial is more than enough to try out the platform. Moreover, it is important to pay attention to each child’s interests to make sure the learning process is efficient.

Signing up for ABCmouse was easy and painless. After getting myself signed up, I began the process to sign Monkey up and get her a profile so I could dig further into the formulated learning path for her. She was nearby and anxious to play once she saw ABCmouse on my screen. She instantly recognized the fun activities and was ready to pick out her  and get started. Together, we picked out a nose, hair, eyes, and clothes for her onscreen persona, which she actually found to be quite entertaining. We were also able to pick a pet fish and hamster out for her. When I asked her what she wanted to name her hamster she said, “OinkOink.” So… that is now her hamster’s name.

Next, we were in the virtual classroom looking around for our first learning activity to play. Knowing Monkey, I knew she would pick one of two learning games first; and I was correct. Puzzles! She absolutely LOVES to do puzzles. She picked out a picture of an elephant and began to quickly put it together. I noticed it was on the easiest level, which was 4 pieces, and realized that was a bit too easy for her. We adjusted the difficultly level up to a 7 and that seemed to be just right for her. In fact, the next time she played, I went back down to level 6 and watched as she switched it back to 7. She’s pretty smart I tell ya! And she was right; level 7 was the perfect degree of difficulty for her!

The next button Monkey chose was another I knew she would enjoy. Animals! She went to the ABCMouse zoo where she could visit each of the animals and learn more about them. As her mother, the best part for me was listening to her try to repeat all the names. With her speech disorder, it is definitely encouraging to hear repeat each of the words as they are told to her. And this went on throughout her time spent on ABCMouse as she walked through complete lessons and enjoyed the educational games. Whether doing a puzzle, reading a book, or singing a song, the reinforcement of her language skills was incredible.

She clicked around all over the classroom looking for more learning games to play and fun educational activities to do. She played with her fish, colored pictures, sang songs, read books, played with toys, and moved furniture around. The most exciting thing for her was waiting for her tickets once she realized that certain activities earned her tickets after completing them. I watched as her eyes would shift after she finished a puzzle or book to see if she was getting tickets. I loved that she understood that and the fact that ABCmouse realized the need for that positive reinforcement feature.

ABCmouse

ABCmouse.com is an educational website for young children that provides over 3,000 online learning activities for kids in preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten levels.

ABCmouse.com is developed specifically to help young children thoroughly learn educational basics in reading, math, beginning science, social studies, art and music. The website offers a depth and breadth of educational content for early learners never before seen in one location on the web.

I have to say, it is one of the most comprehensive sites I have ever used with the kids. Plus, each child can set up their own account–up to 3. That gives me just what I need to set up a login for each of the 3 younger girls. I am just thrilled to find an educational activity they all seem to enjoy; and can continue enjoying while learning. It really just boils down to that. Are they learning? For Monkey alone, the website is worth signing up for. I am excited about the possibilities. Monkey has already excelled in just the first few weeks we’ve continued to use ABCmouse.com.
