Eco-Friendly Nail Polish for Kids from Piggy Paint

Disclosure:  I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Piggy Paint. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Eco-Friendly Nail Polish for Kids

Did you know there was eco-friendly nail polish for kids? You would think that with 4 daughters at home I would know this already! Honestly though, they are far  more girly than I and teach me about cosmetics. My teenage daughter does my make-up for photo shoots or special occasions. I have no clue. And my 7 year old, Princess, is my most divalicious daughter. She loves make-up, nail polish, hair styles, fancy clothes, high heels… you name a girly activity or item and she adores it. Therefore, when Princess found out we had eco-friendly nail polish for kids from Piggy Paint to review she was all smiles.

Nail Polish for Kids

Princess and I had already taken a walk together, per her request, and played a few games. So, painting nails is always high on her list of things to do. She is typically paining my toe nails any time she can. In fact, they are currently painted all sorts of crazy colors from a week ago. I was having some pain in my arm so took some pain medication to sleep. I woke up the next morning with crazy colored toes. It just makes her laugh. I figure whatever makes her happy… and I can wear shoes and socks when necessary. Bringing out the Piggy Paint nail polish put a glow on her face.

She and I hopped on Pinterest and looked at a few different nail polish styles. She did not want anything too crazy… which actually surprised me. But, considering I am no artist, simple was perfect for me. She found a fun (and easy) design that we could both handle. We removed the nail polish she was currently wearing, gathered the tape and scissors we needed, and had a nail polish party on the floor.

Princess did ask her older sister to join us, while Colby painted Monkey’s fingernails in another room. While painting her nails he sang one of her favorite songs in order to focus her attention and help her remember the names of each finger. As they waited for the nail polish to dry, my husband sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to her to keep her still. What a good “daughter daddy” he is!

The girls and I began painting their nails with a single coat of one solid color. Each hand was painted a different color based on what the girls picked. As I would finish paining one hand with the Piggy Paint, I would grab the hair dryer and use it on the low setting to maximize the dryness and chip resistance of the polish. Then the real fun began once we began to add the stripes.

Using scissors to cut thin pieces of tape, we formed the stripe designs on each of their pointer fingers. Princess wanted parallel stripes whereas JJ wanted an X.

After ensuring that all the nails were dry, we applied a second coat of nail polish using a new color to the pointer finger.

After carefully removing the tape, each finger was left with a fun design based on the girls’ choices.

Not perfect since it was my first attempt, but the girls were more than pleased… and that’s all that matters. Well, that and the fact that the girls and I were able to spend some quality time together doing something they really enjoy.

As I mentioned above, Piggy Paint is as “natural as mud“:

As natural as mud, and just as much fun to play with, Piggy Paint is a non-toxic, kid-friendly, virtually odorless, water-based line of nail polishes. Now, little girls can safely get the look of a big girl manicure, without exposure to harsh chemical ingredients or fumes. Piggy Paint comes in a rainbow of fancy colors with fanciful names, ready to wear for special occasions or to brighten an ordinary day.

Considering I am allergic to fragrances, it was awesome to be able to sit and paint the girls’ nails without getting a headache. In fact, I did not smell anything which was perfect! Not to mention, the nail polish went on smooth, dried quickly, and is safe for the kids to use.

Piggy Paint is currently offering a 15% discount using the code “PiggyFun” at checkout through April 30, 2013. It is also available at select Walmart stores as well as Walmart.com.
