Daydreaming about a Mom Cave Design with La-Z-Boy #MomCave

There are 8 of us in our home. Eight. The time when I can sneak away and be alone to hear my own thoughts is few and far between. Don’t get me wrong. I am grateful for all I have… including my large family. But, who doesn’t need a place to get away or just relax every once in a while?

Again, with 8 people you can also imagine that our home is pretty full. Every room is taken so there is not much room for me to have all to myself. But, one area that I spend a lot of time in is my office space. Well, office space that was, until recently, our formal dining room. We moved our formal dining set into the breakfast area of the kitchen (a tight fit but we made it work) and then our other dining table into the office space. Needless to say, it doesn’t exactly “go” with our office furniture but decided to leave it in there for now.

But, I often start daydreaming about a Mom Cave design aspect I could add to my office space. First off, I need to have a place for people to sit when they come in to visit. My kids obviously stop constantly during the day to talk to me or show me things. Thus, a sitting area is necessary. Right now we have 2 of our old dining chairs for them to sit on. Not very comfortable if you want to talk for a bit.

My husband and I perused the La-Z-Boy website, as well as the La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries Online Catalog, looking for fun ideas before we left for our local La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery. La-Z-Boy is an iconic brand associated with comfort, style and quality, and integrity. Plus, the company recently extended their partnership with actress Brooke Shields for the “Live life comfortably” brand campaign.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly, helpful sales associate. He gave us a quick run down of how the store was set up and answered our questions each step of the way. Fortunately for us that included the Power Recline line of chairs they had. Perfect for catching a quick nap!

We also quickly found these great Stationary Occasional Chairs that would fit perfectly on the wall where we currently have the old dining chairs. Plus, the fantastic bright color of the turquoise table between them adds just the right splash of brightness to the room. Much better than the uncushioned dining chairs there now. And, if we wanted to change the cushion print, it would be easy to since customization is a key component for La-Z-Boy. You have the ability to select from more than 900 covers in both fabric and leather to use in more than 250 different frames. Matching everything should not be a problem.

The other area where I would like to add some new furniture pieces would be right behind my desk chair. The old dining table is there now, but here is what I am thinking. Since I sit for long stretches at my desk some days, I often have to get up and just lie on the floor. My back and legs need to stretch and I feel like I just have to give my eyes a break. How cool would it be to just push back, turn around, and relax a bit on a nice sofa or loveseat?!

After walking the entire La-Z-Boy gallery, we came right back to the first set we saw. Of course. Isn’t that how it always works? But it was hard to get past the colors and design of the set we found. The curved back of the sofa and the muted color tones caught my attention as soon as I saw it. The brown and greens against the blue background were exactly the color schemes I had imagined.

Plus, I have this crazy fascination with birds and I simply could not pull myself away from the beautifully matched accessories. It all went together so well and was incredibly soft and comfortable to sit on.

The Demi Sofa was the perfect size for the area we were looking to fill and the wood accents even matched my desk. The reverse camelback design of the sofa was eye-catching and I could perfectly visualize it in the space.

In fact, the entire set up would be stunning in my office/mom cave. The rug, the accent pillows, table tray, lamps… I wanted it all.

Plus, I even think there would be room for the high leg recliner that went with the sofa to fit in place of one of the dining chairs we have along the other wall. It would be a tough call only because I really like the look of the other stationary chairs and would want both. Plus, if I really wanted, I could have some In-Home Design Assistance from La-Z-Boy. They will send designers out to my home and help me choose the best styles that would fit my needs, budget and space.

That is the joy of daydreaming I think… I can imagine the room as big as I want and believe I could make everything fit into my Mom Cave. And, since it is my space, I could enjoy it as I please. I am thinking cuddling up on the sofa with a good book or taking a mid-day nap is just what this mom needs from time to time.
