2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty : Not Just for Work

Disclosure: We were loaned the Ford F-250 Super Duty for 7 days in order to facilitate this review. No other compensation was given. All opinions are 100% my own.

Have you seen the new 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck? Have you thought about how your family would fit into it? Or do you consider it more of a work truck? We drove the Super Duty around for a week and loved it! This truck gave everyone plenty of room and allowed us to enjoy some pretty fun activities.

I must admit, the size of the 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty truck was a bit intimidating to the kids at first. But, as soon as they climbed inside they were excited about the roominess and comfortable seats. After checking for all of the safety features and installing the car seats, we were ready to take it for a ride.

Of course, since we are constantly on the go, cupholders are actually high up on our list of features to check for. The F-250 Super Duty has 4 cupholders at the front of the driver’s console… and 2 in the back. Plus, each door has a water bottle spot. Considering the truck is made to hold 5 passengers, that is more than sufficient.

With the girls as our regular backseat passengers, they get to tell us their favorite features from their perspective. Considering they like to read and do other activities on the drive, the overhead map lights are of utmost importance. Plus, since we typically carry an array of electronics with us when we travel, the fact that there are (6) six 12V and (2) two 110V power points is incredible! We could all keep our phones and tablets plugged in and charged while on the go.

Honestly, the entire cab of the truck was full of great features that made the ride more enjoyable for us as a family, as well as for those who need the truck for work. For example, the 8″ high resolution touch screen and dials in the F-250 Super Duty are large so that men in the field with work gloves on can still work the included SYNC with MyFord Touch. Even the large handles and compartmentalized door pockets allow for bigger hands and space for work documents and items. Or, they can easily hold things like small toys and extra diapers.

Not to mention, the backseat comfortably held one car seat and 2 boosters for the girls. There were no squished legs or lack of space. Everyone had their own personal space. As their mom, I am most grateful for that. As I mentioned, being on the road, they tend to get tired of each other after a bit and just need their own little piece of the truck to enjoy. The big backseat and plenty of legroom in the Ford F-250 gives them just that.

And driving the F-250? I am pretty sure that Colby was in truck heaven. He very much enjoyed the driving the Super Duty and would look for reasons to take it for a drive. I am almost sure I saw a tear when they came to pick it up.

But, I cannot lie… It was a pretty nice truck. The front seat gave me enough room to sit cross-legged and still have room to move around in my chair. Plus, just like the color of the King Ranch we drove, I LOVED the color. The Kodiak Brown has a subtle, reddish sparkle to it when the sun hits it just right and looks incredible on the road.

The “Platinum” package of the 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty gives the truck a bold appearance with a satin chrome surround grille highlighted by perforated mesh inside, plus other special exterior upgrades. Plus, the interior of the truck showcases exquisite luxury in the form of premium wood grain appliqués, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and other high-end luxury touches… such as Platinum stitching in the seats.

There are apparent signs of a heavy duty work truck found in the 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty, such as the Tailgate Step with Tailgate Assist™. It is very helpful in climbing into the back of truck and would be especially handy for stepping into the truck with a load of wood or other work supplies. We found it beneficial in loading the truck and getting the kids up in the back to sit and watch a drive-in movie, as well as to watch fireworks for the 4th of July. All the kids wanted to sit in the back of the truck and thought it was a great summer experience.

But, even with the “Super Duty” overall look, the 2013 Ford F-250 still makes a great family truck. I, of course, always go back to safety, and the F-250 features a class-leading array of safety features that includes:

  • Standard driver and front passenger airbags
  • Side seat airbags
  • Safety Canopy side curtains with roll sensor
  • AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control
  • Trailer Sway Control
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Belt-minder
  • Four-wheel Anti-Lock Brake System

The Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks have set the new best-in-class industry benchmarks for heavy-duty pickup towing and payload capacities. It has 400 horsepower at 2,800 rpm with a towing capability of 18,500 pounds. In addition, the 6.7 Liter 4V V8 holds 26 gallons of gas and also offers a 6.2L 2-Valve V8 (Flex-Fuel) Engine option.
