Preparing to Shop Small
There is a lot of hype that goes into shopping this week. In fact, it seems to start earlier and earlier each year. This year the sales are going to begin at 8:00 pm on Thursday… that is Thanksgiving Day! Woah! I am not even done recovering from the tryptophan by that time. But, it will all be fine because this year we are also preparing to shop small. Saturday, November 24, is Small Business Saturday and we have some local places to check out.
By, we, I mean my mom, sister and I. My sister began dragging us around to the stores in the early morning hours about 6 years ago and it has become a tradition. But, it always runs over into Saturday as well. Larger stores hold various sales all weekend so we have to head back on Saturday morning. This year we are making an exception. This is the 3rd year that American Express has promoted the Small Business Saturday, and it will be my second time participating.
Absolute Promotionz
I have already been talking to one local small business. A friend of mine just recently helped open a screen printing business called Absolute Promotionz. I am wanting to get each of the kids, as well as hubby and myself, shirts for when we travel on blog related trips. Although my teens may think it is a crazy idea… I am sure the girls will love it. It will be just like when they go on field trips at school and all wear the same color. That’s always cool, right?! Well, regardless, I want everyone to have a cool shirt with our brand on it. Therefore, what a better way to help promote both my friend and a small business than to check it out.
There are also several stores that run along the main strip through the older part of town. Each and every one is a small business. A handful of restaurants, a music school, insurance agent, car wash, clothing boutique, skater’s shop… a plethora of great choices. Perhaps we can simply park at one end and walk the sidewalk and see what incredible treasures we could find. We always drive by and window shop but have not stopped in quite a while. It should be fun for us just to get out and discover more of what our small town has to offer in local talents and artistry.
Small Business Saturday
Think about the small business owners you know. How can you get out and help others on Small Business Saturday? Don’t forget, American Express is offering their card members the opportunity to receive a $25 statement credit when they enroll their eligible American Express® card. Simply use your AmerEx card to spend $25 or more in a single in-store transaction at a qualifying small business location on Small Business Saturday.
