My Review

Having already read a few of Susan May Warren’s books, I was expecting nothing less that greatness from The Shadow of Your Smile as well. Set in a small Minnesota town, the story begins with Eli and Noelle, a couple married for 25 years. Having faced a horrific tragedy in their family just 3 years prior, their marriage is rocky and the family is falling apart at the seams. After an unfortunate accident, Noelle is left with trying to remember who she is and what her past holds. Together with their 2 sons, Eli tries to rebuild his family that has been broken in recent years.

The characters are easy to engage with and the plot drew me in from the very beginning. There are subplots that keep the story alive and add more depth to the story line and that come full circle by the end of the book. Relationships are the main focus as the family works to restore the union between each other, and Eli and Noelle rekindle a romance they once had. Not only does each member of the family discover more about their relationships with each other, but with God as well. Their faith is tested and they restore their faith as they work through feelings of forgiveness, hope in their future, and reconciliation with one another.

The Shadow of Your Smile is an excellent book and I recommend it as a great read this winter. These book is part of the Deep Haven series, which I had not read previously, but easily works as a stand-alone story as well.  Does Noelle regain her memory after the accident? Is their family able to recover? Read for yourself to discover if Eli and Noelle are able to restore their marriage.
